Pre-service social studies students create a web-based, electronic textbook section. This textbook section is created based upon the pre-service teachers extensive research of prototype social studies textbooks, the pre-service teachers extensive research on their selected historical topic, and the unique needs and interests of the students they are working with in a local classroom. This textbook is expected to be developed using a minimum of three types of software, and include visual and auditory information.
This textbook section is developed by the pre-service teacher to be used by a small group of students in a local classroom. It is intended to be developed for the unique needs of a small, selected group of students with whom the pre-service teacher is working during the semester. The pre-service teacher interacts with the student in many ways during the course of the semester. This textbook section is intended to put into practice the experiences the pre-servce teacher has had in both the SNC campus classroom and as a pre-service teacher in a local classroom. The pre-service teacher must use effective written communication to develop their textbook section based upon the intended audience of their elementary student. Once developed, the pre-service teacher gathers feedback from the student to revise the textbook section.
